The Opportunity Hackathon

Hack the Labour System

Rich in diversity and culture, let’s tap into our innermost potential to create the solutions for our future to make over 400 million talented Africans access to evenly distributed opportunity.

Why Afrikathon?

Without 130 Million Youths Africans with no decent work, Young Africans people are willing to learn new skills if the skills will enable them to secure gainful employment.

Youth are Africa’s greatest asset. Africa’s youth population is rapidly growing and expected to double to over 830 million by 2050. If properly harnessed, this increase in the working age population could support increased productivity and stronger, more inclusive economic growth across the continent. But today, the majority of youth in Africa do not have stable economic opportunities. Of Africa’s nearly 420 million youth aged 15-35, one-third are unemployed and discouraged, another third are vulnerably employed, and only one in six are in wage employment.

According to the World Bank, young people make up 60% of all unemployed Africans.

With more Young and Tech Savvy Africans spending an average $0.5 each day to buy data for internet, How we can create the opportunities of the future now, to ensure that Africans of today can live decently tomorrow, and in the wake of COVID-19, the rise for technology and the further displacement of jobs and lives. Can we utilize our talents, skills and resources to hack for the future. With Remote working becoming even mainstream. Young Africans will need to adapt to this present culture. Which is why the Afrikathon Experience simulates a what a remote work condition is like in real life, with sessions, check-ins, calls, timezones and language barriers.
